A word from one of the FBC students.

Community, something I seem to shun, afraid of accountability. Yet this week I discovered real community the way God intended it. A group of people that come together with a sole purpose of glorifying Christ. I discovered the wealth of friendship and fellowship with other Christians.

Yesterday I was told that during chapel that night there was to be an altar call, something I had not witnessed in years. So my prayer through the day was that God would stir the hearts of my Mexican peers who did not know Jesus. Later as the night came and chapel was about to start o felt a calm peace and excitement as the kids made their way to the tent. The preacher gave his message in Spanish and with the few words that I knew I was convicted. I could feel the presence of God’s spirit. Words like “love, Jesus, and Life.” Echoed through my mind as the preacher dove into prayer. I watched as somewhere around 15 Mexican kids gave their lives to Christ, some of which I had come to know. As I watched they made their way down to the stage as the preacher led them in prayer. The worship band began to play and as the rising sound came to a crescendo the friends of the new believers rushed to the stage and embraced their newfound brothers and sisters in Christ. I stood by the side of the tent enveloped in God’s Love and then I saw a friend of mine in front of the stage lifting his arms I walked over to him and put my arm around his shoulder and there we stood, a Mexican and an American worshiping God and celebrating our new family. I fumbled around the stage praying with friends from Mexico. And one thing stuck in my mind as I worshiped “Familia en christo” family in Christ. And together we worshiped. Community in Christ.
