Days 3 and 4

Posted in Mexico on July 20th, 2008 by PK Kurth – Be the first to comment

Sorry there haven’t been any new posts lately… we lost internet for a day. Just a quick update on what has been going on in the last few days: Yesterday morning we were able to go on a short hike to a cross that is setup on a nearby hill… the rest of the day was spent practicing dance routines for the camp opener (which will be performed tomorrow night!) and taking care of random camp preparation… from recreation to figuring out where everyone is going to sleep. Today we have been spending more time working on the opener routine and setting up the tent which will be our chapel for camp. It has been amazing to see the body of Christ at work as everyone fits a specific role simply by doing what they are good at and being willing to learn. We are all excited to see what God is going to do with week as we are one day away from campers arriving!

-Random note: In the slide show below there is a picture of a shower made out of PVC pipe (made by Lonnie!) which is pretty amazing.

HI J

It’s Mikaela again and we are having cultural awareness time… aka siesta time! Haha. We are having a ton of fun here… the Hume people are so nice and so are all the other groups that are here. Kylie, Courtney and I are in the opener and we’re bubble dancers…kinda like robots that blow bubbles. I’m not gonna say that we’re good or anything but its fun. Haha. I miss everyone at home but the days here are going by pretty fast. Yesterday we had to sweep out the basketball court and that was pretty intense. We are all tired and Courtney and I are hecka sore. Probably because the dancing like 24/7 isn’t really our thing. Haha. But anyways… I’m excited to see how this week goes when the Mexicans get here. I can already tell that God’s gonna do some amazing stuff. We had a bible study this morning and I randomly opened Job 33 and God showed me some good stuff…because to be honest lately I haven’t been in the best spot with my walk, and then I tend to stop talking to God. But He just really showed me that that’s why I’ m where I’m at. That I need to speak up and talk to Him about things that aren’t going good in my life, or things I’ve been doing that aren’t right, but that He’ll always forgive me and love me and make me whole. It’s been really refreshing. By the way, I’m like officially in love with Nutella, and definitely getting some when I get home. Ha. Anyways, I love and miss everyone and am so thankful for all the prayers and support! See you soon! Love-love-love Mikaela!

Dondea!

Greetings from Siesta Time! This Week has been Great; It has defiantly been an adventure. The Hume Staff are all super nice and it’s really cool to see all the behind the scenes work that goes on. Kylie, Mikaela, and I are in the Hume opener were bubble girls, in the words of Mikaela Kasprack: “were robots that blow bubbles.” It’s fun but were not the most talented of the bunch, there’s dancing, nuff said….And I have recently discovered with our new sleeping arrangements that febreze is my best friend. I am so excited to see what else God has in store for all of the campers next week. Keep praying that God will Keep doing amazing things. Thank you for all your prayers and support.

Love Courtney

Hola familia y amigos,

Hi its Kylie J So it is now day four and we have been busy busy busy.We get to have a siesta every day though which really helps!! In just a few hours its gonna get crazy. We have been preparing for a Hume Lake status camp which will start tomorrow. We have been a bit behind schedule though and we might need an all-nighter tonight to get things done in time. Courtney, Mikaela, and I have been having a great time and get to be in the opener! We have been practicing ALOT and are excited, but very nervous lol. Its really dusty here and we are always dirty but I’ve learned to make the most of it. God has blessed us with a glorious breeze which we are all truly thankful for. I’m making new friends and everyone is really nice here. God has been teaching me to: “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. This verse has definitely been a help especially when I get tired and frustrated. I miss you all at home and can’t wait to see you again. Mom- I’m eating a lot lol. I love you!! Papa and jess- love you! Jonathan- I miss you babe and I love you a lot.

Love ky

Day 2

We woke up and enjoyed breakfast and morning devos. We will be going through the book of colossians for the next few mornings. After that we had a tour of the camp and were able to serve them by helping clean bath rooms, work in the kitchen, and clean some of their dorm rooms. After cleaning we played dodge-ball and enjoyed lunch…
Still to come tonight: Opener practice, Dinner, and Recreation practice.
