I’ve been back a few days now after a quick trip to Romania and South Africa. Here are a few thoughts generated as a result:
ARAD, ROMANIA: is beautiful country, much like the Northeast of the US… tree covered hills with lush green valleys.
We meet with a group of good and Godly men concerning the acquisition of property for a retreat center with a capacity of 60 people. After several meetings, (including those with a museum director and lieutenant governor) viewing the site (the ruins of a 14th century castle), and further reflection, Bob Phillips, Hume Lake’s director-at-large, dropped a bomb on these men. This site just would not do.
There is nothing like asking men to fly all the way from the US to validate your dreams and then have those dreams shattered. But when you pray for God’s leading you should be ready for things like that. These men are already involved in camping ministry for youth (visit www.mountainwings.ro/galerie for photos). What Bob proposed was that they find a better site with some type of water feature that would accommodate up to 300 students per camp. From 60 to 300… talk about dreaming BIG!!!
The sweet thing is – these guys didn’t flinch. They are just two decades removed from the fall of communism. One gave us a tour of the Timasoura city square and an eyewitness account of the events that took place. These men have no problem believing that God, who broke the chains of Communism, could certainly bring about the type of youth camp we proposed.
We also proposed bringing a team in the summer of 2009 to run a camp for high school students as a prototype for this new venture. We hope to have that proposal finalized by December or January. PRAY for them as they search for property to purchase. PRAY for a rental facility to host next summer’s camp. PRAY for the local churches who would send their students to such an event. PRAY that God would raise a team from the States to serve the youth of this wonderful country.
