We Just wanted to let you know we are alive. The camp has no internet connection. Below is a post from Heidi Gross.

Romania Blog July 8, 2009
Wednesday morning, July 8th and the sun is shining, well sort of. Each day the sun shows itself intermittently and when it does it is a welcome relief from the rain. In true Hume fashion, even when the rain falls the program continues.
God’s name receives praise here at camp. Throughout the day, whether at morning or evening chapel and even during free time, the Romanian students enjoy worshipping the Lord through song. It is a beautiful sound and a pleasing offering to the Lord. At evening chapel PK has challenged students to think about darkness (John 3:16-21) and the conflict that exists between it and light. In addition, students have attended seminars on a variety of topics. The message and seminars have been a springboard for conversations between students and American or Romanian staff. Questions are asked, and answers are sought.
The generation of young people here at camp live in the shadow of older generations who have been Orthodox at best, or godless under Communism for so long. A decision to follow the truth of Christ can often lead to conflict at home. Adi is one of the young men at camp who has a heart to share Christ with his family. But he faces the reality of rejection from his father. According to Adi’s father, Adi’s decision to follow Christ has made his son “weak” and this perception weighs heavily on Adi.
Many of these types of conversations continue to take place with students who are seeking answers regarding how to be a light in this dark place. In a country where 2% profess to be Christian it is exciting to see that God is moving in the lives of these young people and that His Name will be spread across this nation in the days, years, and decades to come.

- Heidi

It has been a crazy prep week for Romania. Monday morning started with an e-mail from our Romanian partners requesting a cancellation of camp due to extremely dismal registration. This just two days before we were to fly. It turns out their economy has been harder hit than imagined. Only 25 students could afford the camp fees.

After consultation with our executive staff, we decided to step out by faith and underwrite the fees for every student who would attend camp. Thank you, Lord, for men who are willing to lead by faith. We are not sure where the monies will come from, but are trusting God to move upon His people.

Monday afternoon we received confirmation that camp would indeed be held. After scrambling to finish packing, we left this morning (Wednesday) for LAX. Unfortunately, we had a vehicle breakdown. Fortunately, it was at the Lyons exit in Santa Clarita. Two hours later we were back on the road.

As we head to bed, I am confident that God will do a great work when we get there. It seems that Satan is intent on discouraging us or causing our focus to shift from the eternal to the temporal. Please pray for us over the next 32 hours or so as we travel. Pray especially that we arrive in Timasoara with all of our luggage.

We will try to post again on a layover in London.
