We are assisting the development of a youth camp ministry in Romania – Pointman International Camps. Pray for all of us as we seek God’s direction in property, wisdom in ministry vision and discernment in partnerships. We will be renting the above facility as we introduce Hume-style ministry to 130 young people.

While our partners may be new to the resident camp world, they are veterans in youth ministry. Visit the following site to view several of their previous outreaches.

I’ve been back a few days now after a quick trip to Romania and South Africa. Here are a few thoughts generated as a result:

ARAD, ROMANIA: is beautiful country, much like the Northeast of the US… tree covered hills with lush green valleys.
We meet with a group of good and Godly men concerning the acquisition of property for a retreat center with a capacity of 60 people. After several meetings, (including those with a museum director and lieutenant governor) viewing the site (the ruins of a 14th century castle), and further reflection, Bob Phillips, Hume Lake’s director-at-large, dropped a bomb on these men. This site just would not do.
There is nothing like asking men to fly all the way from the US to validate your dreams and then have those dreams shattered. But when you pray for God’s leading you should be ready for things like that. These men are already involved in camping ministry for youth (visit www.mountainwings.ro/galerie for photos). What Bob proposed was that they find a better site with some type of water feature that would accommodate up to 300 students per camp. From 60 to 300… talk about dreaming BIG!!!
The sweet thing is – these guys didn’t flinch. They are just two decades removed from the fall of communism. One gave us a tour of the Timasoura city square and an eyewitness account of the events that took place. These men have no problem believing that God, who broke the chains of Communism, could certainly bring about the type of youth camp we proposed.
We also proposed bringing a team in the summer of 2009 to run a camp for high school students as a prototype for this new venture. We hope to have that proposal finalized by December or January. PRAY for them as they search for property to purchase. PRAY for a rental facility to host next summer’s camp. PRAY for the local churches who would send their students to such an event. PRAY that God would raise a team from the States to serve the youth of this wonderful country.

Romanian Adventure – Day 1

Greetings from Arad, Romania.

I’m not sure how or why God does this, but once again we have landed in a 5 star hotel.

Just a quick recap of our day so far… we met with a principal, a vice president (more like a lt. gonvernor), a mayor, a city councilman and a museum director/ archeologist. None of them at the same time. All of them concerning the aquisition of a national landmark refered to as ‘The Fortress’. It was originally built in the 1200s and last occupied in the 1500s. All of my photos were terrible so I’ll track a few others down and post them later.

My battery is about to run out and I forgot my power converters. So much for savvy world traveler. I’ll write more when I’m recharged.

Just wanted to give you the highlights of our trip so far…

How do I seem to end up in the 5 star locations of a country? Our hotel is extremely modern and comfy.

As for today… we met with a school principal, a museum curator, a vice president (more like Lt. governor), a mayor and a councilman. None of them at the same time as that would have been too convenient. We met to discuss the aquisition of a castle ruins refered to as ‘The Fortress’. It’s German name translates as Falconburg. It was built in the 1200s and last occupied in the late 1500s. It sits on a hill about 400 feet above the valley floor. Unfortunately most of my photos did not turn out, so I will delay posting them until I can find a better collection.

If all goes well, it would be an interesting mix of leadership training center/ youth camp/ tourist destination.

My battery is about to run out and i left my power converter at home. So much for savvy world traveler. I’ll post again when i am recharged.
